MarketMuse alternative: when you need published facts kept right
If you want a MarketMuse alternative for topic research and content briefs, other tools do that job. If your problem is facts on published pages going out of date, that is the job Veritas is built for.
Key takeaways
- MarketMuse is still sold under its own name, as part of Siteimprove since the October 2024 acquisition.
- It plans and optimises content with topic models and briefs. Its own site doesn't describe checking whether published facts are still true.
- Veritas does that other job: it re-checks the claims on live pages and flags the ones that went out of date.
MarketMuse helps teams decide what to write and how to optimise it. Most lists of alternatives compare it with similar planning and optimisation tools, and most are written by vendors who rank themselves first.
This page does something different. It says what MarketMuse offers today, using its own site checked on 31 October 2026, explains the one job it doesn't describe, and shows when Veritas is the right pick and when it isn't.

Which MarketMuse are you replacing?
MarketMuse is still live and sold under its own name, but it has a new owner.
Siteimprove announced a definitive agreement to acquire MarketMuse on 8 October 2024, and MarketMuse's About page lists "Oct '24 Acquired by Siteimprove" in its timeline. We found no sourced closing date, so we don't give one.
Marketmuse.com still has its own home, pricing, Optimize and content-brief pages, with "Book a demo" buttons.
Siteimprove's own site now describes an "agentic content intelligence platform" with content strategy agents. Nothing we found says what that means for MarketMuse customers, so ask the vendor before you commit to a long contract either way.
What MarketMuse does, in its own words
From its home, pricing, Optimize and content-brief pages:
It maps what your site already covers and where the gaps are.
A score from 1 to 100, where higher means harder for your site, based on your coverage of a topic and how it performs.
Nine types, including article, comparison, FAQ collection, guide, how-to, listicle and product review, exportable to Word and Google Docs.
Scores a page against a topic model, compares it with any of the top 20 ranking pages and helps you optimise existing content.
Free, Optimize, Research and Strategy, with different limits on users, tracked topics, briefs and queries. Paid plans say "Book a demo" and show no prices.
MarketMuse names brands, publishers and agencies as its users, and says it is not a CMS and doesn't write content for customers.
Why people look for a MarketMuse alternative
Alternatives pages ranking for this search give a few recurring reasons:
Paid plans are sales-led. One roundup quotes a yearly figure for a paid plan that we could not confirm anywhere on MarketMuse's site, so don't rely on it.
Smaller teams often want to test a tool on their own pages first. MarketMuse does have a free tier with limited queries.
Some teams want AI-search visibility tracking or a lighter tool for single articles. MarketMuse's pages don't describe AI-citation tracking, though its About page says it optimises for AI-driven search systems.
Nothing we found explains what the Siteimprove deal means for existing customers.
Optimising content is not the same as keeping it accurate
Tools like MarketMuse answer "what should we write, and does this draft cover the topic well?" They work on the way a page is planned and written.
A second question starts after publishing: is what the page says still true? A statistic gets replaced by a newer release, an office-holder leaves, a price or rule changes. The page can keep a strong topic score while a sentence on it is wrong.
MarketMuse's briefs do suggest writers include "fact statements", meaning verifiable facts. That prompts writers to add facts. We found no MarketMuse page that says it checks those facts against sources, or alerts you when one goes stale.
How Veritas handles the second question
Veritas is an autonomous fact-maintenance agent for publishers. It runs in the cloud on a schedule and works on pages that are already live.
Reads your sitemaps, sitemap indexes, Google News sitemaps and RSS or Atom feeds.
Statistics, dates, who holds a role, quotes attributed to named people, events, comparisons and superlatives. Opinion and prediction are skipped.
Searches beyond your own site, prefers primary sources, and lets you list the domains you trust.
Supported, contradicted, outdated, misleading or unverifiable. "Outdated" means true when published and not any more.
Only confident findings reach the queue, each with evidence, citations and a suggested rewrite applied in one click.
Fast-moving claims after 7 days, slowly decaying ones after 45, stable ones after 365. Unchanged claims are never re-checked or paid for twice.
See which facts on your site have gone out of date.
Request early accessIf you need a like-for-like replacement
Veritas isn't one. If you want planning and optimisation, shortlist tools by what you actually use:
Does it model topics and show gaps against your own site?
Which brief types, how many a month, and where do they export?
Can it score pages you have already published?
Is there a public price page and a free tier you can test?
Does it track how your content is cited, if that matters to you?
Tools that roundups most often name are Clearscope, Surfer, Frase, Semrush and Dashword. Read each vendor's own pricing and features page. Two roundups we read disagree on Clearscope's price, which is a good reason not to copy figures from lists. For the traffic side of decay, see our guide to content decay tools.
Where roundups of MarketMuse alternatives go wrong
A few claims in the lists we read don't match MarketMuse's own site:
MarketMuse's Optimize page mentions a generative AI component with a human in the loop, though its home page says it doesn't write content for customers.
One list gives a figure that MarketMuse's pricing page doesn't show; paid plans there are demo-gated.
Clearscope's monthly price differs between roundups. Treat any such number as unconfirmed.
Most lists skip it or give it one line, and none explain what it means for customers.
A workflow that uses both
A content team does not have to choose. The two jobs sit at different points in the life of a page:
Use a planning tool such as MarketMuse to decide the topic and brief the writer.
Veritas has a pre-publish check that fact-checks a draft before it goes live.
Nothing about Veritas changes how you publish; it reads the page your site serves.
Veritas re-checks time-sensitive claims on a schedule and sends only confident findings to your editors.
When a claim is outdated, the editor applies the suggested rewrite, and the page can go back through your optimisation tool if its topic coverage needs work too.
Questions to ask before you renew or switch
Whether you stay with MarketMuse or move, ask the vendor these before signing:
Ask about the product roadmap, support and whether pricing will change at renewal.
A free tier or a trial on your real content beats a demo on a sample site.
Limits on users, tracked topics, briefs and queries differ by plan, so compare them with your actual volume.
Check the export formats, and whether briefs and scores survive if you leave.
If published accuracy matters to you, ask whether the tool checks claims at all, or leaves that to your editors.
Honest limitsWhen Veritas isn't the right fit
MarketMuse and similar tools are built for that, and Veritas offers neither.
Optimisation tools do that. Veritas checks claims, not coverage.
Veritas reads the HTML a page serves.
Use a traffic-based tool; Veritas doesn't measure traffic.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best MarketMuse alternative?
It depends on the job. For topic research, briefs and optimisation, roundups most often name Clearscope, Surfer, Frase, Semrush and Dashword; check each on its own site. For keeping published facts accurate, Veritas is built for that.
Is MarketMuse still available?
Yes. marketmuse.com is live and sells Free, Optimize, Research and Strategy plans. It has been part of Siteimprove since the acquisition announced in October 2024.
How much does MarketMuse cost?
Its pricing page shows a free plan and three paid plans, but no prices; paid plans say "Book a demo". Figures quoted elsewhere are not confirmed on MarketMuse's site.
Does MarketMuse check facts?
Its pages describe topic models, briefs and optimisation. Briefs suggest writers include verifiable facts, but we found no statement that MarketMuse checks them against sources.
Is there a free MarketMuse alternative?
MarketMuse itself has a free plan with limited queries. Many other tools have free tiers; check each vendor's own page. Veritas doesn't offer a plan on this page.
Can I use Veritas and MarketMuse together?
Yes. They do different jobs: MarketMuse helps plan and optimise content, and Veritas re-checks the facts on pages once they are live.
Keep every page true
Veritas re-checks the facts across your published pages and hands editors a sourced fix when one goes stale.
